Greece’s new “stayover” tax

If you are traveling to Greece in 2018, do not be surprised when a hotel asks for direct payment of the new “stayover” tax (Article 53, law 4389/2016). Amounts range from €.50 to €4 per night, depending on hotel or accommodation class, and are collected at check-in. Exempt are campsites, youth hostels, self-service units, and officially designated Traditional Settlements.
