Athens visitors up 600% since 2012

Athens city-break visitors are up by 600% since 2012, according to Athens Mayor, George Kaminis. More than 5 million people visited Athens in 2017, and the positive trend continues this year.
Athens is a wonderful place to spend 2 or 3 nights before or after a tour or island excursion. There are many new hotels, such as the Design Hotel’s boutique property, AthensWas, located in the historic center between the Acroplis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus; as well as my favorite, and home in Athens, The Herodion, which is just around the corner from the Acropolis Museum and Lalaouis Museum. Shops and eateries are thriving, and the annual Athens Epidaurus Festival has now grown to 24 venues throughout mainland Greece.
The next time you visit Greece, be sure to spend some time in Athens. There is much that is new in this very old city.
